Welcome to the International Institute of Buffalo!

 

Since 1918, the International Institute of Buffalo has assisted immigrants, refugees, and others who face linguistic and cultural barriers to become self-sufficient, active members of our community. Today, the Institute serves as a dynamic international center, providing critical services to refugees and immigrants and promoting global understanding and connections in Western New York.

In 2012 the countries we resettled refugees from included Burma, Bhutan, Somalia, Eritrea, Sudan, Iraq and Iran.

Computers for Children Partners with the IIB

The Oishei Foundation funded a pilot program with Computers For Children, Inc. to train twenty Burmese refugees in the use of computers to communicate with their school. The pilot program is designed to help bridge the digital, language, and educational divides. The IIB is a training site and provided translators and cultural knowedge and support.
