The Oishei Foundation funded a pilot program with Computers For Children, Inc. to train twenty Burmese refugees in the use of computers to communicate with their school. The pilot program is designed to help bridge the digital, language, and educational divides. The IIB is a training site and provided translators and cultural knowedge and support. Results are in for the WorldQuest 2013 the IIB's annual fundraiser for our educational programming, which was held May 9.

The IIB held the Western New York round of WorldQuest earlier this year at Tapestry Charter School. 

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown recognized Brittany Blizzard today in a ceremony at the Montante Cultural Center. "It's really exciting. And it's really humbling to have your supervisors at two different organizations say you're doing a good job," said Brittany. 

"Many refugee and immigrant women have limited knowledge about breast cancer, and a fear of talking about cancer in general, which makes this program very essential in increasing this population’s understanding and awareness about the importance of screening and early detection," said May Shogan, IIB Director of International Visitors & Education.
