Preventive Services

The goal of the Preventive Services Department is to bridge the cultural gap that currently exists between social service providers and the various ethnic communities in the Buffalo area within a child welfare context. Specifically, we work closely with refugee and immigrant families, as well as with child welfare agencies and child protection workers, to ensure mutual understanding and successful adaptation to life in the United States. To this end, we provide home-based traditional preventive services, with an emphasis on cultural orientation. Additionally, we conduct outreach and training for child welfare agencies to give them the tools to work effectively with immigrant and refugee communities.

For more information on these important services or to arrange a training, please contact  Preventive Services Coordinator Shea Post at 883-1900, ext. 322, or spost@iibuff.org.

The mission of the International Institute of Buffalo is to assist immigrants, refugees, their families, and others who face linguistic and cultural barriers to become self-sufficient, productive members of our community, and to increase global understanding and international connections in Western New York.
